History

Being one of the oldest clubs in the local dragon boating scene, we were founded in 1979 by Captain Hong Hong Song from the Singapore Armed Forces and a handful of ex-SAFSA (Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association) dragon boat paddlers to allow ex-NS men to still engage in the sport after they had ORD.

Although we started out as an all-male team, in the early 1990s ladies were inducted into the Club so that the we could take part in mixed team events in the annual dragon boat races.

Growing from strength to strength over the last 35 years as a competitive club, we participate in competitive races locally such as MR500, DBS Regatta, Singapore Dragon Boat Festival, SAVA Sprints Internationals and the Singapore River Regatta every year, with a couple of medals to our honour. Sometimes, we will be invited to take part in regional dragon boat races.

SAFRA mens team is one of the strongest mens team in Singapore. The team came in 2nd in the Mens Open category in 2009's Singapore River Regatta race. We made it to the finals in the recent 2010 June race and also achieved 3rd in Inter-Business Houses and Clubs category in 2010 MR500 race held in March.

We welcome new and experienced paddlers to join the team and be part of this exciting dragon boating experience. Our land trainings are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings for our water training at Kallang Reservoir.
