Most Dragon boats are seen during the June or early July at boat races. These races are popular because they commemorate a story about a Chinese poet who drowned himself to protest the injustice that was going on in the world at that time. He wanted to change the way that things were being handled and couldn’t. While he was drowning himself, several men in a boat raced toward him in the hopes of saving him. They threw rice off their boats to try and stop man-eating fish from attacking him, but it was a wasted effort since he perished.
The Viking Dragon Ships
Another type of dragon boat that we often think of is the Viking Ships. They also have a dragon head on the bow and oars that run down the side. However, they are much larger than the traditional dragon boats. Viking ships also have a large square sail that helps them move quickly through the water, even through shallow waterways. They are able to cross oceans and they were the old-fashioned pirates. They are the boats that allowed the Viking era to take place.
These Two Boats Are Different
However, similar these two boats are, they are very different. Each one has a special place in our history, but you should know that both of them existed and they are not the same.
